**University-funded PhD Studentships**

Research within Sports Studies at Stirling is focused in two major areas. These comprise

Sport: Policy, Management and Culture

Sport, Health and Exercise Science

 

Knowledge Transfer Activities

As well as contributing to academic publications, members of staff undertake consultancy work for sports bodies such as UK Sport, Sport England, the Scottish Institute of Sport, Sportscotland, the Professional Golfers Association, the Scottish Football Association, the Gaelic Athletic Association, the New South Wales Rugby League and FIFA; for non-profit organisations including Glasgow City Council, the European Commission, the Youth Sport Trust, the Robertson Trust, Stirling Council and the National Horseracing Museum; and for many commercial firms including BSkyB, GlaxoSmithKline, Lonza and Newcastle United. Staff are regularly called on by the media to comment on issues in contemporary sport, act as expert witnesses to official inquiries, and examine research theses at other institutions at home and abroad. Their research expertise is also acknowledged by their membership of the editorial boards of academic journals such as Football Studies, International Journal of Sport Finance , Sporting Traditions and Sport History Review.

Postgraduate Supervision

Postgraduate research supervision is offered in most areas of sports studies as well as training via University and Departmental courses.
