
The University's sports facilities are available to students, staff,
members of the local community and a range of external groups. The
facilities can be accessed by taking out a sports centre membership
or on a 'pay and play' basis.
There are parking spaces for disabled users immediately next to
the entrance to the National Swimming Academy and at the rear of
the Gannochy Pavilion.
There are cubicles, lockers, showers and toilets in the National
Swimming Academy for disabled users. There is also a hoist to assist
users into and out of the swimming pool. Access to the sports centre
is via the door leading into the café area. There is a bell
by the door to summon a member of staff to open it. Access to the
fitness suite on the second floor is via a lift next to the entrance
to the sports hall. There are showers and toilets for disabled users
in the changing rooms in the fitness suite.
Items such as tennis rackets, golf clubs, etc. are available for
hire at a nominal charge. A membership card, ID card or cash deposit
must be lodged against any item hired. A charge will be made for
any breakage or damage. Disposable items such as shuttlecocks, golf
balls, etc. can be purchased.
Lockers are provided in all changing rooms. Lockers require a £1
coin (returnable) to operate. The University cannot accept responsibility
for valuables lost or stolen in and on its sports facilities. Users
are strongly advised to bring minimum amounts of money and other
valuables into and on sports facilities. Users are requested to
empty lockers after use to enable other users access to them. Lockers
will be emptied by University staff at the end of the day if they
are believed to have been left full.
There are a number of personal possession lockers available in the entrance area f the M.P. kJackson Fitness Centre. These lockers also require a £1 coin (returnable) to operate.
Please contact a Sports Attendant, Duty Officer or Receptionist
in an emergency and for first aid. Contact the Golf Course Attendant
in an emergency and for first aid on the golf course, putting green
and golf practice areas.
There
is a telephone in the corridor in the squash courts that should
be used to summon assistance in an emergency. There is a bell by
the sports hall door that should be used to summon assistance in
an emergency.
The sports hall and tennis centre are used for examinations, graduations,
registrations and special events. The sports hall is closed for
3 weeks in May and 2 weeks in early December and the tennis centre
for 2 weeks in late June/early July and a week in early September.
Dates will be posted on notices boards next to the receptions.
The sports
facilities have limited opening hours during the Christmas and New
Year holidays. Details are published in the leaflet Sports Facilities
and Services at Christmas available in mid-December.

There
is a large mixed changing area. It has 19 cubicles and 96
lockers. There are also 3 larger cubicles and 16 larger lockers
for disabled users and family groups. There is a mixed shower
area by the swimming pool. There are also separate changing
areas for men and women. These have their own shower areas
and each has 24 lockers. |

are two small changing rooms for men and women in the fitness
centre. Each has 12 lockers and a couple of showers. One of
these showers is accessible to disabled users. There are two
larger changing rooms for men and women in the tennis centre.

centre and sports hall are encouraged to use these changing
rooms. They are accessible to disabled users. |
| Main Changing Rooms | There
are four large changing rooms – two for men and two
for women – to the right of the reception area. There
are showers and 80 lockers in the men's changing rooms and
showers and 68 lockers in the women's changing rooms. Users
of the grass and artificial pitches are encouraged to use
these changing rooms but they are available to all users of
the sports centre. There are occasions (normally on Wednesday,
Saturday and Sunday afternoons) when some of these changing
rooms are used by football teams and they may not be available
to other users. |
Information about these arrangements are posted on the notice board
next to the reception in the sports centre.
All users of the sports facilities, except University staff and
students, are classed as "visitors" for parking purposes.
Parking for visitors is free at all times. All users of car parks
must adhere to the University's Traffic and Parking Regulations
Car Parking Control Measures – 2004/2005. A copy is available
on request.

Access
to the University is controlled at the main and rear entrances.
Visitors are required to enter the University by the main
entrance and collect a parking slip from the booth. Regular
visitors can obtain a "Sports Centre Permit", allowing
access by either the main or rear entrances and avoiding the
need for a parking slip. An application form is available
from the receptions. Visitors may park in any designated car
parking space. There are 39 parking spaces for visitors next
to the National Swimming Academy. Stirling University students
and staff are not permitted to use these spaces between 8.30
am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. There are also 405 spaces
in the car park by the Cottrell Building (at the top of the
University drive), 93 spaces in the car park by Andrew Stewart
Hall (first left and second right after passing the control
point at the main entrance) and 95 spaces at the front of
Pathfoot Building (first left and first left after passing
the control point at the main entrance). It takes 2 minutes
to walk from these car parks to the sports facilities. |

Access
to the University is not controlled. All users (staff, students
and visitors) may park in any designated parking space. |
Please do not park in a space designated for the disabled unless
you are a Registered Disabled person. Moreover, please do not park
in non-designated areas. This is dangerous and may prevent the emergency
services dealing with emergency situations. Users of grass and artificial
pitches are requested not to park next to the National Swimming
Academy.
