Intra-mural sport offers opportunities for students and staff to participate in friendly competition in a variety of sports. It is a chance to exercise, relax and enjoy sport at regular intervals, requiring only a small time commitment. During the year competitions are offered in the forms of leagues, individual events and one-off competitions.
Leagues are open to single or mixed sex teams. League games are
played regularly at the same time each week. Days and times are
listed in the Intra-mural Football Leagues leaflet. Each
team plays all other teams in their league. Prizes are awarded to
the winners of each league. Matches last 30 minutes and no more
than two University 1st 11 players are allowed in each team. Teams
are made up from any six players. You may wish to enter a flat team,
house team, department team or a team made up from a group of friends. All results and fixtures can be obtained by checking the intramural notice board or click here for Intra-mural League Fixtures and Results. This semester's tournament will take place over 6 weeks, from week commencing Monday 8th March 2010. For further information about the intra-mural leagues please contact Kerry MacPhee on kerry.macphee@stir.ac.uk or click here to view the brochure.
The multisports league is a great way to keep active and try new things. Each week, you play a different event (Football, hockey, rounders, frisbee and touch rugby). Who you play against is the luck of the draw. Please check back here for further details of dates and entry requirements.
Five golf championships are held throughout the year. These are
held at high quality golf courses throughout Scotland. Transport
to and from events is provided. Students, staff and scholarship
players have a unique opportunity to compete together. Throughout
the five events, points are awarded to players with the best gross
and net scores. Once all the events have been completed, the players
with the highest collective points total win the respective Order
of Merits. To view and download the entry forms please click on the Event form.
A number of fun competitive events are organised for a number of
sports. American tennis tournaments, badminton fun days and
basketball one-day events have been offered in the past. To find
out what is on offer during the year, watch the notice board in
the
sports centre for details.
This race was created by a member of the Psychology Department.
A £1 bet was placed that no member of the University could,
without mechanical assistance, do the return trip from the Gannochy
Pavilion bar to Dumyat in less than an hour. On Graduation Day 1971
the £1 bet was lost by 3 minutes. The first 'official' race
was held in 1972. The event is now held annually on the first or
second Wednesday evening in May. It attracts over 150 runners. The
event is integrated into the Scottish Hill Running Calendar and
it attracts professional runners and a number of students and staff.
For more details watch the notice board in the sport centre for
details.
The event on Wednesday 6 May 2009 attracted 258 entries. Click here for the Dumyat Hill Race Result and Pictures of the race!
