| Fred Coalter was appointed in May 2003. Prior to this he was Director of the Centre for Leisure Research at the University of Edinburgh (1990-2003) and Director of the Centre for Leisure and Tourism Studies at the Polytechnic of North London (1986-1990). |
| Teaching |
| Fred is module co-ordinator for the MSc module, Public Policies for Sport. He also contributes to module SPS917 Operational Management in Sport and module SPS916 Sports Policy, Planning and Management. |
| Research |
| In 2002 Fred was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management and in 2004 he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Leisure Sciences (USA). In addition has been a member of the Council of Europe Working Group on Sport and Social Exclusion; Chair of sportscotland’s Sport 21 Forum on Sport and Social Inclusion; member of Sport England's Working Group on Performance Measurement for the Development of Sport; member of Audit Commission’s Working Group on Best Value in Sport and Recreation; expert advisor to the Scottish Physical Activity and Health Council; member of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Neighbourhood Renewal Unit’s Advisory Group on Sport and sportscotland's Sport 21 Implementation Steering Group. He is also a member of the editorial board of Managing Leisure: an international journal. |
